National Organization Taps Local Professionals to "Represent" for Youth Mental Health Awareness

Bowling Fundraiser at Mid City Lanes "Rock N Bowl" to Benefit Youth Move National


New Orleans, LA - September 30, 2013 - New Orleans has become a hotspot for professionals looking to enjoy the best years of their lives and make a difference. That enthusiasm has caught the attention of a national organization that works to empower youth through voices of experience.  Youth Move National will host it's annual fundraiser next month in New Orleans during it's National Board of Directors conference. The bowling benefit titled STRIKE! for Youth Mental Health Awareness will take place on October 26, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Mid-City Lanes, 3000 S. Carrollton Avenue, NOLA 70118. Admission is $50 per person.  Funds raised will go directly toward tackling youth mental health disparities and establishing a local chapter.

Admission will include food, drinks, 2 hours of bowling, and bowling shoes for each participant.  Professionals from all industries are invited to enjoy a little competitive fun and represent their professions for this great cause.  They are encouraged to join up with coworkers, friends, and their industry's leaders to form teams of six.  At the end of the event, the team with the highest number of strikes will receive a gift. Young Professionals are key because they have the power to make a real difference in the community through mentorship and leading our nation's youth through voices of experience.

Youth Move National's Director of Resources and Development, Raphaelle Alexander notes, "From our perspective many of today's youth fall through the cracks due to a lack of available services and funding cuts. And, so often there is a huge stigma attached to mental illness which prevents some youth and their families from seeking help and quite frankly even having the conversation; leaving many youth to feel alone."

Four local professionals who demonstrate a commitment to youth advocacy have been selected for a chance to receive the Youth Move National  Honorary Young Professional of the Year Award.  Nominees are Westley Bayas of Stand for Children; Mary Beth Razza of Cafe Reconcile; Kim Dilosa of YOUTHanasia; and Timmy Vo of VAYLA. All nominees will be awarded, but only one will win the title based on most votes received. Voting begins on Friday, September 13, and is open to the public until midnight on Friday, September 27th.
