2013 "RUNNING OF THE SANTAS" KICKS OFF HOLIDAY SPIRIT IN THE BIG EASY
New Orleans Hottest Christmastime Event supports military families on December 14
(New Orleans, LA) - The Warehouse District will be transformed into a sea of red and green with thousands of colorful and festive Christmas costumes on Saturday, December 14, as the "Running of the Santas" embarks on its third annual "Fun Run." The popular costume-inspired Christmastime event will begin at 9 am and run late into the night. Now in its third year in New Orleans, the Holiday "Fun Run" has quickly become one of the hottest, signature Christmastime events in the city.
"Running of the Santas" started in 1997 in the streets of downtown Philadelphia when 40 close friends decided to suit up in holiday attire and go bar hopping. Nearly 16 years later, the "Running of the Santas" event has grown across the world with over 20 host cities reaching all the way to the shores of New Zealand.
Last year's "Running of the Santas" attracted more than 2,000 revelers to the streets of downtown New Orleans as they participated in Christmastime merrymaking. This year's holiday extravaganza kicks off at 9 am from the "South Pole" at Barcadia Bar and Grill at 601 Tchoupitoulas Street where party-goers can enjoy tasty food, special holiday drinks and live music before they embark on the seven block "fun run" at 5 pm to the North Pole at Generations Hall at 310 Andrew Higgins Drive.
This holiday event calls for participants to dress up in their most creative and unique Christmas and holiday attire. Awards will be given out for "Cutest Mrs. Claus" as well as the overall "Best Holiday Costume." Musical entertainment will be provided by Flow Tribe at Barcadia Bar and Grill from 2 to 4 pm, and Category 6 will rock the house at Generations Hall from 6 to 9 pm.
Tickets to the "Running of the Santas" are available at www.runningofthesantas.com. General admission tickets are $15, while VIP tickets may be purchased for $25.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit "That Others May Live Foundation". The foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2002. The foundation provides scholarships, family counseling, and aid to surviving children of United States Air Force (USAF) Rescue Heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice during a rescue mission. The goal of the program is to ensure that every child of a fallen personnel recovery service member receives an opportunity for success.
