ICM launches performance series with New York Celtic-Jazz singer

On Saturday, March 15, the Irish Cultural Museum of New Orleans welcomes New York chanteuse Tara O'Grady to its 2014 Performance on the Patio series. O'Grady and sax player Michael Hashim will bring their distinctive sound to New Orleans for a special St. Patrick's Day party in the French Quarter. They will be joined at the museum by New Orleans musicians James Singleton on bass and Larry Scala on guitar.

The New York songbird, who combines Celtic, folk, blues, swing and jazz in her unique musical styling, has been featured on BBC Radio and was named one of the Most Influential Women of 2010 by the Irish Voice newspaper.

Raised in the Big Apple on traditional Irish music, as well as the sounds of Elvis Presley, Glenn Miller, Hank Williams, Louis Prima, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee, O'Grady spent summers on her grandparents' farm in Donegal, Ireland.

O'Grady's 2010 debut album Black Irish is a collection of Irish songs from her childhood. Her unique rendition of Danny Boy was featured in a BBC documentary Danny Boy: The Ballad that Bewitched the World, a program celebrating the song's 100th anniversary.

Black Irish landed O'Grady in Nashville where she began writing songs and recording with music industry greats.  Her second album Good Things Come to Those Who Wait was released in 2011 and her most recent album A Celt in the Cotton Club was listed as one of the best albums of 2013 by the Irish Voice.

The New York recording artist now adds her unique vocal styling to everything from reggae albums to advertising jingles. She has performed in New York at Birdland, Lincoln Center, Irish Repertory Theatre, Irish Arts Center and other venues.  O'Grady has toured music festivals across the country and will make St. Patrick's Day appearances in New Orleans through sponsorship by IN-NOLA.

To learn more about O'Grady visit her website at http://taraogradymusic.com/

Admission to the March 15 ICM Performance on the Patio evening of music is $15. The festivities at 933 Conti Street begin at 7:30 p.m. and Tara O'Grady will perform at 8:00 p.m.
