Armstrong International Secures "Fastest Growing Airport" Award

anna.areo recognizes New Orleans "colossal" growth

(NEW ORLEANS, LA) - Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport has received an award as the Fastest Growing Airport at the 4th Annual US Annie Award.  The award, present by anna.aero, is made annually to airports that have made remarkable air service achievements.   Armstrong International won in the category of Fastest Growing Airport with between 5 million and 10 million passengers for its colossal air service growth of 7.1% in 2013.

"We are pleased to be recognized for this award. The ambiance of New Orleans continues to be a major draw for tourists, conventioneers and business travelers from around the world as evidenced by our amazing air service growth in 2013," said New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

"Every special award that Armstrong International Airport receives is a reflection of the hard work that the New Orleans Aviation Board and staff performs to give our community the Airport they expect and deserve," said New Orleans Aviation Board (NOAB) Chairwoman Cheryl Teamer.

"The importance of this award is that it highlights the renaissance New Orleans has been going through," said Director of Aviation Iftikhar Ahmad. "We continue to focus on air service, not only maintaining our present service but growing the service with new airlines and new routes. Our latest achievements have been the arrival of Alaska Airlines with direct service to Seattle that begins in June 2014, a direct flight to San Diego via Southwest Airlines beginning in April and the return of vacationexpress.com with their seasonal non-stop service to Cancun, Mexico and new service to Montego Bay, Jamaica."
