WHY: The Historic New Orleans Collection's spring Concerts in the Courtyard series continues Thursday, April 17, with the New Orleans Nightingales. This month's event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Shout, Sister, Shout! The Boswell Sisters of New Orleans," now on view at 533 Royal St.

The New Orleans Nightingales are a diverse group of female singers in New Orleans. Steeped in the traditions of early American music, the ladies of the New Orleans Nightingales bring new life to this hundred-year art form through new compositions, vibrant live performances and a commitment to evolving traditional jazz and folk music. Ingrid Lucia, Banu Gibson, Alexandra Scott and the Pfister Sisters (Debbie Davis, Yvette Voelker and Holley Bendtsen) will perform, with John Fohl (guitar) and Peter Harris (bass) backing, in this celebration of the Boswell sisters and the female vocalists who have followed in their footsteps.

All concerts this season will feature white wine from Republic National Distributing Co. and NOLA Brewing Co. beer.  Republic National Distributing Co. is the second-largest beverage alcohol distributor of premium wine and spirits in the U.S. NOLA Brewing Co. was launched in 2008 by local entrepreneur Kirk Coco and Peter Caddoo, a former brewmaster at Dixie Beer.

The Historic New Orleans Collection is proud to present its seventh season of Concerts in the Courtyard. Since 2008, these events have offered a fun, casual way to kick off the weekend. Each show features live outdoor performances by Louisiana musicians, refreshments and extended hours to visit the shop and the first floor of the current exhibition.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Concerts in the Courtyard:

Admission to Concerts in the Courtyard is $10 for the public, free for members of The Collection and includes three complimentary beverages. Memberships begin at $35 and are valid for one year. Capacity is limited and the event is designed for a standing audience. Outside chairs, food and beverages are not permitted on the premises. For more information, call (504) 523-4662 or visit www.hnoc.org.
