Greater New Orleans Foundation Presents Inaugural GiveNOLA Day on Tuesday, May 6, 2014

Community encouraged to support local nonprofits by visiting GiveNOLA.org

WHO: The Greater New Orleans Foundation & 300+ participating nonprofits

WHAT: The Greater New Orleans Foundation, in partnership with its donors, presents the inaugural GiveNOLA Day- a community-wide online 24-hour giving day in New Orleans. The goal of GiveNOLA Day is to ignite the spirit of giving and to come together as one to support nonprofit organizations in the Greater New Orleans area that are creating a thriving community for all.

                           12 AM - 11:59 PM               

HOW: GiveNOLA Day is an online event, making it easy and accessible to give to local nonprofits. On May 6, 2014, visit http://www.givenola.org/ to support your favorite nonprofit or cause. Anyone can donate with a minimum donation of $10. Since it is an online event, nonprofits and donors are encouraged to promote GiveNOLA Day through social media and online campaigns.

WHY: All types of nonprofits make New Orleans such a great place to live - ones that shelter our homeless, feed our hungry, and care for our children. Every donation made on www.GiveNOLA.org will go even further because participating organizations will receive a proportional amount of the Greater New Orleans Foundation's "Lagniappe Fund." In partnership with its generous donors, the Greater New Orleans Foundation has raised over $300,000 to make every gift go further.

GiveNOLA Day is tied to a national event called Give Local America where hundreds of community foundations across America ask their communities to give back on May 6, 2014. The Greater New Orleans Foundation is one of the oldest and largest philanthropic organizations in the region and is leading this initiative to increase philanthropy in the Greater New Orleans area through online giving to its region's charities.

Presenting sponsors for GiveNOLA Day include: Boh Brothers, Gillis, Ellis & Baker, the Shell Beach Fund, and the Greater New Orleans Foundation. Supporting sponsors include: All American Grease Services Company, Bellwether Technology, Boettcher Fund, Lemle Fund, Merrill Lynch, and Zemurray Foundation.
