Every Thursday Big Freedia and DJ Rusty Lazer along with other local bounce artists hit the stage at The Hookah. If you're wondering what is bounce, here is what Wikipedia has to say about Bounce Music: Bounce music is an energetic style of "New Orleans hip hop" music which is said to have originated as early as the late 1980s, but is typically believed to have begun with the 1991 single "Where Dey At by MC T.Tucker. A highly influential cover of "Where Dey At" was also released by "DJ Jimi in 1992.

Bounce is characterized by "Call and response" style party and Mardi Gras Indian chants and dance call-outs. These chants and call-outs are typically sung over the Triggerman beat, which is sampled from the song "Drag Rap" by the Showboys, or Brown beat, which is sampled from Derek B's "Rock The Beat". The sound of bounce has primarily been shaped by the recycling and imitation of the "Drag Rap" sample: its opening chromatic tics, the intermittent shouting of the word "break", the use of whistling as an instrumental element (as occurs in the bridge), the "drag rap" vocals and its brief and repetitive melody and quick beat (which were produced with use of Synthesizers and drum machines and are easily sampled or reproduced using like-sounding elements).
 
The genre maintains widespread popularity in New Orleans, LA and the southern United States and has a more limited following outside of the Deep South. Throughout this decade, the "Take Fo'" record label has dominated the genre with artists such as "DJ Jubilee and "Willie Puckett." Katey Red, "Big Freedia" and "Sissy Nobby have also made significant contributions.

New Orleans JAMFEST’10 organizers value the importance of music and the arts as part of a complete education. At JAMFEST’09 students will walk in the footsteps of the giants of Jazz while discovering New Orleans, the city of its birth. Our goal is to provide the optimum experience for all performers and directors through cultural immersion and the wonder of learning through cooperation with Loyola Jazz Ensemble Festival, which is in its 40th year. All performances both competitive and non-competitive will be held at beautiful historic Loyola University.
 
The Festival is open to big bands or Jazz combos from elementary through junior college level. Master classes will be held for all instruments on Thursday, March, 4th and Friday,5th, and will be taught by our guest artist, bassist and composer Rufus Reid and the Loyola jazz faculty. A panel of expert musician/educators will adjudicate and provide clinics immediately following each performance.

Eat crawfish, drink and listen to local music. The Louisiana Crawfish Festival is located in Beautiful and Historical St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana which is rich with heritage, moss covered oak trees, creole tomatoes, Louisiana Bayous, shrimp boats, oyster luggers, oil refineries, fisherman’s haven and the home of the Battle of New Orleans site over-looking the Mighty Mississippi River. The festival originated in 1975 and has grown to become a Louisiana tradition. Patrons frequent the festival annually from all areas of the United States . They arrive by auto, air, bus and train to come in for the spring event that features authentic Cajun cuisine. Boiled Crawfish with all the “fixins” & Crawfish Dishes such as Crawfish Bread, Crawfish Pasta, Crawfish Pies, Crawfish Rice, and Crawfish Jambalaya adorn the limelight while many other food booths tickle just about everyone’s pallet. Cajun entertainment and current hit parade bands explode on stage to draw crowds to the sounds and glitter of showmanship. The entertainment committee assures that everyone attending will at some point enjoy the performances.
 

Thursdays and Fridays entice the listeners to prepare for the weekend filled musical finale on Sunday night. Arts and crafts lure hundreds to see real hand crafted products. Cups, plates, belts, straw hats, sun glasses, tennis visors, personalized home crafts, license plates and key chains are jus a few of the treasured values offered. There’s always a giant midway with carnival games, cotton candy, candied apples and rides to thrill the toddler through the roughneck and even the Ferris wheel for Maw Maw and Pawpaw.
 
The awesome clinking on the tracks, the air brakes, the laughter amid the flashing lights with noisy horns and squealing sirens draw thousands to conquer their inhibitions. The weekend of festivities boasts proudly of its ability to reunite families, attract family reunions, spark new relationships and spread joy throughout the entire atmosphere. The Plaquemines Parish Seafood Festival is celebrating its Sixth Anniversary on Memorial Day weekend! The Park is adjacent to the rear gate of the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base. It is a fitting location to celebrate while saluting our Medal of Honor recipients and those who served and currently serve in our armed forces. Guests will enjoy delicious seafood fished from the Gulf waters and prepared by local restaurants. Witness the crowning of the first Seafood Queen and participate in the only sand-bagging competition ever held at a festival.

Commemorate French Independence Day with French-themed food and activities. This year's celebration will begin on Saturday at Esplanade Avenue’s Faubourg St; John merchants (between Ponce  de Leon Street and Esplanade’s 3100 Block). They invite you to enjoy live music from Vavavoom and the String Beans, play the French game pétanque at Fortier Park (across Esplanade from Café Degas), participate in the many children’s activities planned, and enjoy the food and drink. Admission is free. 

.The Alliance française of New Orleans will be hosting a dinner (wine included) at Café Degas  with the live music. In addition, a Mass in French will be celebrated at Saint Louis Cathedral.  

Also,  there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, organized by  the Conseil des Sociétés Françaises will take place at the Jeanne d’Arc statue at Place de France on Decatur Street. Refreshments afterward at the Market Café.
