This year's Essence Music Festival, July 2-5, celebrates its 21 years in the Big Easy! Essence Fest, the leading festival for African-American recording artists, will feature soul, funk, hip-hop and R&B artists.

Each night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the Main Stage will be electrified with performances by the hottest stars in R&B, soul and gospel. Appearing on the Main Stage are Usher, Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Charlie Wilson and more! New Orleans natives Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will appear on the Mainstage on Sunday, July 5. Other New Orleans acts include Dumpstaphunk, performing in the Art of Hip-Hop Superlounge, and Tank and the Bangas, performing in Soul of R&B Superlounge.

Essence Festival's Day Party Series will be held at the Sugar Mill from 1-5 p.m. each day of the festival. This ticketed event will feature DJs along with a complimentary bar and food. 


African-American Empowerment

Essence Music Festival is also known for its business and
empowerment seminars dubbed Empower U. Business and spiritual gurus will be leading and guest speaking at seminars throughout the weekend. Notable speakers and performers include Steve Harvey, Al Sharpton, Anita Wilson, Charlie Wilson, Claudia Jordan, Cynthia Bailey and Noelle Robinson, Deepak Chopra and many more. The festival will also feature an Career Fair and Business Expo.

This year Essence will host a Day of Service on Thursday, July 2. With an emphasis on New Orleans' youth, health and resilience, volunteers have the opportunity to work with local schools on gardening and cleaning, providing free health screenings and donating books.
