Founded in 1935, The Krewe of Choctaw had their first parade in 1939, 4 years after the founding of the organization.
Although the krewe took the name of a Native American tribe that inhabited Louisiana, the krewe's roots are in southern government. Comprised of 225 male, female and child riders, 6 floats and marching band, this krewe is also known for a street parade as well as a river parade. After a few changes over the year, the Krewe of Choctaw now follows the Krewe of Grela through Gretna on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish.
Because of the Superbowl, Krewe Of Choctaw is moving from the Westbank to Uptown in Orleans Parish. Their 2012 Theme is Avenues Of America.
