First Annual Nola Vendy Awards

March 13, 2013

The Vendy Awards are an annual event organized by Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center, a membership-based organization of more than 1,500 vendors. SVP’s famed Vendy Awards have determined New York City’s top street chef for 8 years, and have become one of the most beloved and widely anticipated food events in New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The money raised by the event supports the non-profit Street Vendor Project in its organizing and advocacy work to promote street food and the people who sell it. The New Orleans Vendys will also serve as a fundraiser for the New Orleans Food Truck Coalition (NOFTC) & Slow Food NOLA.

“We’re excited to be expanding to New Orleans to celebrate its street food and recognize the city’s hardworking vendors,” said Sean Basinski, Director of the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center. “Street food chefs will put this incredible city’s rich gastronomic traditions on full display.”

A panel of judges will award the Vendy Cup to the best food vendor and attendees will pick the winner of the coveted People’s Choice award.
New Orleans’ first annual Vendy Awards will take place on March 13th at the Historic French Market. Members of the press should email vendyawards@gmail.com to request a press pass.

The following tickets are available for purchase at http://vendysnola.eventbrite.com/
