The 24th Annual Wooden Boat Festival along the banks of the scenic Tchefuncte River in Madisonville, La. on October 12 and 13, 2013.
“The 24th Annual Wooden Boat Festival is on track to be our best festival!” said Don Lynch, Museum Executive Director. “The excitement level is building and the boaters are more anxious than ever to get the festival underway!” Acoustic Americana and Blues performer Patrick Cooper accompanied by Dwight Breland with
kick off the musical festivities at 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 12. Then, at 7:30 pm, the “World’s Greatest 80’s Experience” will begin as The Molly Ringwalds take the stage! Children’s Village, will feature both fun educational activities and amusements like mini boat races, science experiments, robotics demonstrations, a bounce house, inflated maze, and storytelling. At the ever-popular Toyota Quick ’n’ Dirty Boat-Building Contest, attendees can witness the hilarious antics and cunning carpentry skills as 20 teams blitz build a wooden boat, with the hopes of being the first to glide across the finish line. A team consists of a four to six-member crew. The crews bring a Mardi Gras feel to the festival as they pick themes, name their boats, and dress up in costumes. The crews will parade from the ball field to the river, where the ultimate contest begins, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2013.
On Water Street, view and tour the more than 100 classic and wooden boats on display, enjoy regional delicacies and specialties foods, and shop for fine wares being sold by our artists’ and marine vendors.

A limited supply of the highly-coveted annual Wooden Boat Festival collectible posters created by well-known local Louisiana artist Peter Briant will be sold at the festival. As part of a unique Wooden Boat Festival tradition, the St. Tammany Woodworkers Guild
will be at the south end of Water Street where children can build small wooden boats from precut pieces. For antique car enthusiasts, the classics of the water will meet the classics of the road as the Classic Car Cruise-In, which is expected to attract over one hundred antique and classic cars from across the region.

The Wooden Boat Festival kicks off with Maritime Mania, the patron party featuring the band Twilight, an open bar, and plenty of delicious food from area eateries. The Pirates of the Tchefuncte themed party, presented by Davie Shoring, will be held on Friday, October 11, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Maritime Museum. General admission tickets cost $75 per person or $125 per couple. Only a limited number are available. The highly coveted tickets to this
popular bash are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can be purchased by calling the Maritime Museum at (985) 845-9200. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Maritime Mania guests are encouraged to dress like pirates or nautical chic.
