Frederic Arnold completed 50 combat missions as a P-38 fighter pilot in World War II, and is one of only two survivors from a group of 14 fighter pilots who flew in North Africa in 1943. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with nine Oak Leaf clusters. On his return from combat, he test-flew America’s first jet, designed and developed power steering for aircraft and was promoted to the rank of Major at the age of twenty-three. More recently, Arnold decided to search for the families of the lost fighter pilots with whom he served in North Africa in order to properly tell the story of their heroic efforts. His search was the subject of the 2007 documentary Between Two Worlds: Memorializing the Lost Men from the Class of 42J, by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker Aaron Weisblatt. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is appreciated. Please RSVP online or call 504-528-1944 x 412.
