American Theatre Project of New Orleans, in conjunction with Ashé Cultural Arts Center and the New Orleans Fringe Festival, is proud to present the world premiere of "…a member of the white race…." during the 2013 New Orleans Fringe Festival. Written by Warren Burdine and directed by Ed Bishop, the story is based on the actual court case of Ralph Dupas, one of the two last great New Orleans prize fighters, and tells the story of how in Jim Crow 1957, New Orleans, Southeast Louisiana parents concocted an elaborate “passing” scheme.  Regarded as neither Black nor White, the poorer, mixed-race people from the country having virtually no ties with the city mixed-bloods, make the way for their son's unwittingly "passant blanc" (fr. passing for white) as the young boxer holds on to his title as the number-one lightweight contender.  The cast includes: Todd d'Amour, Ray Vrazel, Janet Shea, Carlos Gonzalez, Karen Sloane-Boekbinder, Tim Caldwell, Kathryn Talbot, Mia Frost, and Denzel Johnson.  For more information: www. atpno.org or www.nofringe.org.  Ticket information: 504.957.9283 or www.atpno,org.
