Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, elves, human Christmas trees and candy canes ─ these are just a few of the festive Christmas costumes that partygoers will sport at the 3rd annual “Running of the Santas” that will take place on December 14 in the New Orleans Warehouse District.

The “Running of the Santas” calls for participants to dress up in their most creative, insane and unique Christmas and holiday attire. The popular, costume-inspired, Christmastime “Fun Run” will begin at 9 am and run late into the night. Now in its third year in New Orleans, the wintertime festival has quickly become one of the hottest, signature Christmastime events in the city.

Last year’s “Running of the Santas” attracted more than 2,000 revelers to the streets of downtown New Orleans as they participated in Christmastime merrymaking. This year’s holiday extravaganza kicks off at 9 am from the “South Pole” at Barcadia Bar and Grill at 601 Tchoupitoulas Street where party-goers can enjoy tasty food, free Abita Beer from 2 to 4 pm and live music before they embark on the seven block “Fun Run” at 5 pm to the North Pole at Generations Hall at 310 Andrew Higgins Drive.

Musical entertainment will be headlined by nationally-renowned rock band Category 6 at Generations Hall from 7 to 10 pm, and Flow Tribe will bring the house down at Barcadia Bar and Grill from 1 to 4 pm. Naughty Professor will also be performing at Generations Hall from 5:30 to 6:30 pm to warm up the crowd for Category 6. Awards will be given out for “Cutest Mrs. Claus” as well as the overall “Best Holiday Costume” at Barcadia for 3 pm.

The official lineup for the 2013 “Running of the Santas” is as follows:

Tickets to the “Running of the Santas” are available at www.runningofthesantas.com. General admission tickets are $20, while VIP tickets may be purchased for $30.

“Running of the Santas” started in 1998 in the streets of downtown Philadelphia when 40 close friends decided to suit up in holiday attire and go bar hopping. Nearly 16 years later, the “Running of the Santas” event has grown across the world with more than 20 host cities reaching all the way to the shores of New Zealand.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit “That Others May Live Foundation.” The foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2002. The foundation provides scholarships, family counseling, and aid to surviving children of United States Air Force (USAF) Rescue Heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice during a rescue mission. The goal of the program is to ensure that every child of a fallen personnel recovery service member receives an opportunity for success.
