The First-Ever New Orleans Mini Maker Faire Celebrates Invention, Creativity & Community

Bricolage Academy of New Orleans proudly presents the inaugural New Orleans Mini Maker Faire, a festival for tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, hobbyists, engineers, authors, performers and students for a day of fun, discovery, food and music. The Maker Faire takes place April 5, from 10am-5pm at the Lyons Recreation Center, 624 Louisiana Avenue.

This one-day, family-friendly festival will showcase the talent and creativity of local maker culture, and feature a great line up of over 30 makers, maker groups, performers, food vendors, and speakers. The New Orleans Mini Maker Faire will feature food, performances, talks, and many hands-on projects and activities for adults and kids of all ages to explore what they can make. A few of the projects, activities, and presentations include:
 
●    Krewe of Chewbaccus parade contraptions
●    Solar generator built with off-the-shelf parts by Solar Alternatives
●    DIY Environmental Monitoring by Public Lab
●    Cutting-edge electric motorcycle and gas-to-electric motorcycle conversions
●    Exhibits by local maker groups Makers of NO and Mystic Krewe
●    UAV and drone exhibits
●    Hands-on electronics, arts, and crafts by Maker Krewe, Thinkerella, and more
●    Amnesia and Synthesia, poetry engines for turning videos and audio into a poetic language
●    Interactive sound art and multimedia installations
●    3D Printing demonstrations
●    Music and circuit-bent instrument demonstrations by the Noisician Coalition, Brown Coat Brass Band, and more.
●    A tasty selection of New Orlean’s best food trucks

Maker Faire is free for kids under 16 and ($10 advance/$12 day) for adults. The New Orleans Mini Maker Faire is fortunate to have Bricolage Academy (www.bricolagenola.org) as its presenting sponsor and non-profit beneficiary. Bricolage Academy is a New Orleans public charter school whose mission is to advance educational equity and create innovators who change the world. Proceeds from this event will benefit Bricolage Academy’s operations during their initial growth stage.
