The Congo Square Preservation Society, in partnership with Ashé, invites you to a film screening on Yoruba Ifa Culture. Filmmaker Araba Ifáyemí Elébuìbon, who will be in attendance, hails from Òsogbo, Òsun State, Nigeria. This is his latest film.
Ipileaye relates the folkloric story of the creation of earth. Olódùmarè, Almighty God, sent the Irúnmolè (Òrìsàs) to earth to make it suitable for human beings. Òsun was the only woman in the group. When the male Òrìsàs excluded her from the work all their efforts failed, pointing through this film, to the origin of problems in the world.Elébuìbon comes from a family known as the foremost authorities on the Yòrùbá traditional cultural and spiritual institution. He will guide discussion following the film.
