Yoga in the Sculpture Garden

Calling all young singers! Jefferson Performing Arts Society is currently still accepting children and teens for their Children's Choirs and the NEW JPAS Jam & Jive Show Choir! To register and join, please drop by a rehearsal time for the appropriate age level choir to fill-out the paperwork and meet the choirs! (formerly the JPAS Youth Chorale). All choirs are vocally directed by Mary Lou with accompanist Garrett Fried.
Rehearsals for the JPAS Children's Choir are Thursdays at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, EJ High School Auditorium, 400 Phlox Street in Metairie, and continue through the Spring. There is a one-time tuition fee of $400 for the Children's Choir plus additional costuming fees. fees.

The Roosevelt New Orleans welcomes back a beloved tradition. Beginning Oct. 4, the Blue Room will return to the Sunday brunch circuit by offering guests a gourmet plated brunch, complete with a performance by jazz clarinetist Tim Laughlin and a complimentary glass of champagne.

The plated brunch will feature gourmet culinary creations by executive chef Stefan Kauth and desserts by executive pastry chef Robert Plouffe. Two culinary stations containing seafood creations and desserts will serve as focal points and add to the pageantry of the meal.

New Orleans Museum of Art Presents - Woodward Exhibition Opening Reception

Come join us at The Museum of Art Opening Reception for the William Woodward Exhibition. Drawing from the holdings of both institutions, the exhibition features more than 70 paintings, etchings, sculpture and ephemera related to Woodward's life and works. A native of Massachusetts, Woodward came to New Orleans in the 1880s to teach fine arts, mechanical drawing and architectural drawing at Tulane University.

Woodward was involved with every facet of architecture in New Orleans, consulting on the design of Tulane's new building for architecture classes. He also designed and built his own home in Uptown New Orleans. His interest in architecture evolved into a passionate commitment to preservation. The first artist to focus intensely on the Vieux Carré, Woodward documented the Quarter's rich cultural heritage in vignettes of daily life-women at market, street cleaners, deliverymen and milkmaids driving drayage carts and residents engaged in their daily activities.

Woodward's depictions of French Quarter buildings focused public attention on the heedless destruction of historic properties. The exhibition offers an opportunity to view a large selection of Woodward's renderings of the French Quarter and to judge the strength of his artistic contribution.

Hutton transitions from recently playing the role of King Arthur in Lerner and Lowe's CAMELOT at Rivertown Repertory Theatre, into the high-heeled and fishnet stockings of Dr. Frank 'N Furter for THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW with JPAS! Hutton has been seen as the leading man on stages throughout the Big Easy including Tulane Summer Lyric, Le Petit Theatre and on the JPAS stages. This is the first role where he has worn three-inch high-heels and a bustier! Dr. Frank 'N Furter's motley crew of characters from another dimension include an array of the best New Orleans local talent. Lara Grice, one of New Orlean's most talented and versatile leading ladies, plays the outrageous Columbia. Grice has graced most all of the stages in the New Orleans area portraying roles ranging from the ditzy Norma in VICTOR/VICORIA to Jaque in Shakespear's AS YOU LIKE IT. She is often seen in local and national TV commercials.

Chris Wecklein joins the cast of ROCKY as Riff Raff, the shifty hunch-backed "butler." Wecklein has also been seen on most stages throughout the New Orleans area and notable in the long-running production of BLACK AND WHITE BLUES at Le Chat Noir. This power-house cast features several other local theatre stars including Marlene Thian as Magenta, Matias Grau, III as Brad and Lucy Faust as Janet, Armando L. Leduc as Eddie and Brandon Sutton as Rocky.

The cast also features Daniel Deshazo, Samantha Gregory, Michael Indest, Diana Macera, Helen Jane Planchet, Colleen Robinson and Matt Standley. Don Lewis, a New Orleans actor, will begin to read the book on Monday, Oct. 26. The readings will occur daily, Monday through Fridays at 2 p.m., and they will repeat at 8:30 p.m. Each half-hour segment amounts to about 12-14 pages, meaning that the book will be completed in about 25 installments.

I AM MY OWN WIFE, written by Doug Wright is the hauntingly complex true tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who successfully outwitted not only the Nazis and Communists, but could also spot a priceless antique at 100 yards. Playwright Doug Wright spent ten years interviewing Charlotte and developing this play. For Charlotte collected antiques from abandoned or bombed houses, enough to turn her East Berlin home into a museum, and transform the basement into a salon and haven for gay artists and intellectuals struggling to survive under the repressive regime.

She received the Medal of Honor from the reunified German government for preserving antiques and culture. But before her life was over, all of her life story would be called into question. Yet this is not a story about being gay, not a story about being a cross-dresser and not a story about cold war politics. It is a story about survival and one astounding person.
