12/19/05 UPDATE: For residents, New Orleans has changed. No doubt about it. But since the tourist areas and most of the historic areas 'dodged the bullet', it's an amazingly normal city for tourists.

Thank goodness we had no flood water, so B&B was 1st in city to reOPEN, back to normal, receiving guests.
>> WERE serving guests ripe bananas from the tree, but cold weather put an end to that
>> a sweet couple MARRIED in courtyard
>> several HONEYMOONERS
>> Our Halloween 'regulars' had a great time
>> Lots of touists, coming to have fun in the French Quarter and on Frenchman St.
>> several wedding groups have stayed with us
>> Some guests staying with us weekends are working on their damaged houses, then driving back to TX to jubs
>> NYE will show the world that N'Awlins is still on the map

. . . Music clubs, bars, dance clubs, and restaurants are thriving in the French Quarter.
>> mule drawn buggies are back on the street
>> tours are up and running
>> Riverboats back in operation
>> Mardi Gras, JazzFest, French Quarter Fest and Tennessee Williams Fest are still on.
>> Frenchman Street is bustling weekends
>> Long lines for Port of Call remain the same.
>> Magazine St. businesses selling goods like hot cakes & restaurants so full on weekends, must wait 1 HR.+
>> Zoo is open
>> Can't find a place to park in French Quarter (that's not news. Never changes)

The most noticeable change tourists find is that some restaurants close earlier than before, some museums not open 6 days.

Thanks to all our guests who made postings on Internet message boards, etc., to let everyone know we are OK and open.

The nightlife is back. Call if you want to come visit. We'd love to have you.

FUTURE STAY CERTIFICATES: For anyone planning to come in the future, who doesn't yet have firm dates, we would put your future stay gift certificate money to good use, NOW. Just let us know how much you want to prepay. Some folks who have stayed with us before, are buying them from us and giving them as gift certificates to friends as a present (birthday, Christmas, etc.), or donating them to their favorite charity.

Gotta go. Bye for now,

Mary (a.k.a. the banana lady) and Hugh (our resident raconteur, who doesn't type) Ramsey
