2012 Annual Report

April 30, 2013

Dear Friends of the New Orleans CVB,

The New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to unveil its Annual Report for 2012, our 52nd year of driving New Orleans' economy and creating jobs through tourism, business travel, conventions, meetings, festivals and special events.

Last year, nine million visitors traveled to New Orleans, numbers not seen in nearly ten years, and those visitors spent a record-breaking $6 billion. New Orleans won the prestigious World Tourism Award, hosted an unprecedented series of sporting events and was named America's Favorite City by Travel + Leisure magazine.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the leadership of 2012 CVB Chairman Fred Sawyers, an extraordinary Board of Directors, as well as our partners, elected officials and members.

It's also a testament to the professionalism of the CVB employees at 2020 St. Charles Avenue and satellite offices around the world. I am so honored to lead this team. They never tire, never settle, and never stop advocating for our beloved city. Because of them, the New Orleans CVB is regularly named one of the top five CVBs in America for customer service and innovation.

2012 results include:

  • The Convention Sales team booked 1.3 million definite hotel room nights, creating an economic impact of $1.19 billion
  • The Tourism Sales team booked 305,491 hotel room nights, creating an economic impact of $250 million
  • CVB employees traveled a total of 345,182 miles promoting New Orleans to meeting and travel planners
  • The Convention Sales team confirmed 5.9 million tentative hotel room nights
  • The PR team assisted 1,315 journalists/bloggers and created positive press in media outlets worldwide
  • The Tourism Department managed sales and marketing programs through contracted international representation companies in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Mexico and Canada
  • The Convention Services team issued 571 leads to members and conducted 101 site inspections
  • The External Affairs Department was created to enhance the education, networking and business development offered to CVB members, and hosted 14 major events

We had a great year in 2012, but there is a lot of work ahead of us to accomplish the master plan goal of 13.7 million visitors by 2018 and make New Orleans a better place to work, live and visit.
